RTV Silicone Molding

Room Temperature Vulcanizing. A temporary surface is fashioned around the pattern creating a parting line for the mold. Liquid RTV rubber is poured over the pattern creating the first half of the mold. Once the rubber has solidified the parting surface is removed and the second half of the mold is poured. The halves are separated and the pattern is removed to produce the two halves of the rubber tool.

RTV molds are the fastest, least expensive and most accurate way to create multiples of a prototype part. Rubber tooling faithfully duplicates the details and textures of the original part.

Key advantages:

  • Reproduce prototypes with complex features
  • Undercuts and zero draft aren’t a problem
  • Short lead times compared to injection molded prototypes
  • Excellent for display or field test models
  • Resembles actual production models
